So, my sister recently found out that she was Anemic. For those of you that don't know what this is, Anemia is having a decrease in the number if red blood cells, or less hemoglobin in the blood. This is a condition that often happens to women, due to lack of iron. My sister found out that she had Anemia because she couldn't figure out why she was addicted to chewing on ice! I thought it'd be interesting to inform you on things you can do in order to reduce or to manage the onset of Anemia. It is important that we stay healthy and aware of our bodies.

About Me
- Elly@Elly Dreams Green
- I am a Junior at the University of Minnesota Duluth. I love love LOVE the crisp smell that Fall brings, but also need the vitamin D that summer brings. I thoroughly enjoy photography and watching movies. To anyone that likes the outdoors, I'm sure we will get along quite well-- I dig fresh air :) I have a cat named Kozmo, who is quite crazy, and If it were more convenient at this time in my life, i'd have a dog as well. As you might conclude, I am an animal junky.
I heard the chewing ice thing, too. I also heard you can get too much iron as well. It's one of those things that we have to monitor and make sure we don't get too much or too little.
ReplyDeleteI have troubles with my iron levels as well. I used to take iron pills, but a lot of times they give me stomach aches. It is really hard to try to get enough iron in my diet, so thank you for sharing this link.
ReplyDeleteBack in high school my high school cross country coach thought I was anemic. I would always faint or have a horrible time breathing and I would get really dizzy and sick anytime I competed. He sent me to the doctor to get an iron test and it turns out I was fine, but I always still try and watch my iron intake.
ReplyDeleteI just thought that chewing on ice would mean that you lack iron. Wow, this is helpful. Thanks for sharing the site. Hope it has helped your sister as well.
ReplyDeleteThat's crazy! Very interesting. I didn't know those sort of 'quirks' occurred when you are anemic. Spinach for lunch today!
ReplyDeleteI loved this post. I have a great deal of problems due to my anemia as well. If I let it get too out of control it really takes a tole on my body. I have to go out of my way to eat a lot of food rich in iron because of this reason. It's not something a lot of people think about but it's really important.
